About this album

A Virgin and a Whore is the fourth album by Finnish band Eternal Tears of Sorrow. It was their last album before their break they had between 2003 and 2005. This is the last EToS album to feature keyboardist Pasi Hiltula (who had been in the band since early 1999) and the only album to feature guitarist Antti Kokko.

The seventh song on the album, “Sick, Dirty and Mean” is a Cover song, originally written and performed by Accept. The band had rehearsed the song for a two-part tribute album (Tribute to Accept vol. 1 & 2) in 1999 but didn’t have any extra time to record it. So, they decided to include the song on A Virgin and a Whore.

The album cover art was made by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media and guitarist of Dark Tranquillity.

Apart from the awesome tracks Prophetian and Aeon, this album was a serious step down from Chaotic Beauty, without those tracks i wouldn't even consider this 'best of 2001'. The problem here was that the songs just lacked any punch (apart from the two i mentioned) and the sound changed too much from CB, not "raw" enough for my liking (almost overproduced). When BTBS came out, it instantly rekindled my love for this band, their best alongside CB.

Definitely their masterpiece in my opinion aswell. Aeon and Aurora Borealis are some of the first metal songs I remember listening excessively. Terrifyingly nostalgic.

Sick, Dirty and Mean isn't a letdown. It just had to be at the end as some guys complain about it, but I don't really care :D
