Biography

Höör, Sweden (1995 – present)

Skyfire refers to two or more artists of the same name;

1. Skyfire is a band from Sweden that has mixed the respective styles of power metal and death metal in their music. They were formed in the town of Höör, Sweden, in 1995. Thus far, two of the founding four members of the band have remained in the lineup: Andreas Edlund, Martin Hanner, Jonas Sjögren, and Tobias Björk.

The main songwriters of Skyfire are Andreas and Martin, but alas, none of these four members had any singing talent. When they decided to record a demo, the band contacted Mattias Holgrem of Embracing who was found to be amicable to the idea. The resulting demo, recorded at TMS Recording in Hässleholm during December of 1997, was entitled Within Reach. The band was ambivalent about the result and changed their sound accordingly for a second demo.

For this demo, known as The Final Story, they found a new singer in Henrik Wenngren, a diminutive man with a large voice who lived far removed from the rest of the band. Still, the resulting sound was infinitely preferable. The demo was heard by a friend of the band’s, Patrik Lindgren, a member of the band Thyrfing, who sent the demo along to the label Hammerheart. They were signed by Hammerheart for two albums.

    "Дичайше на COB похожи", а я бы тут добавил, что на Eternal Tears Of Sorrow тоже. В итоге группа хорошая, но не оригинальная совершенно

    Their sound was pretty different between each of the first 3, but you could still tell it was Skyfire and none other, and nothing else sounded like it. By new, I mean relatively; obviously referring to Esoteric.

    New album is good by any standards, maybe even excellent, but it lacks Skyfire's very unique sound from the first three albums. They now sound like most generic Melodeath (but better) and with more keyboards. Kind of like new Dark Tranquillity stuff. Their specific sound separated them vastly from the rest of the crowd before and Esoteric really doesn't do that. Mors Principium Est is another band that has a unique sound, and though they kind of caved on the Liberation = Termination album, they managed to keep some of the old sound. I'm not saying they've sold out by a large margin or something, but the new album is way too conventional for my tastes.

    It's generally all growls, however the song Within Reach (bonus track on Esoteric) has only clean vocals.

    just found these guys through Across the Sun and I am impressed, gonna look into them soon. Are there any singing vocals or is it all death metal growls? I'd prefer with singing but all growls would be good too.
