Director Product

Working under the direction and leadership of the Vice President Product, the Product Director will be responsible for all operational and transactional execution and performance of the Last.fm product strategy. In this capacity, the Product Director will be required to assist with and contribute to business planning, concept creation, user experience & design, product development, launch great applications & services and grow the audience of Last.fm on a global basis.

Success in the role will be measured based on the combination of overall product quality, effectiveness at achieving defined goals in product strategy for product development, delivery on schedule, meeting / exceeding targets for audience reach and engagement, efficient resource utilization, cost management, revenue capability and performance.

To achieve success in this role, the Product Director will:
- Work effectively with Last.fm Peer Group and CBS Music Leadership Team.
- Collaborate successfully to drive revenue through Advertising by working closely with: International Sales, US National Sales, US Local Sales & US Altitude Group
- Aggressively grow revenue from Subscriptions, Commerce, Ticketing & Licensing channels.
- Collaborate with the broader CBS Interactive and CBS Radio organizations in a variety of areas including Marketing, Business Development, Finance, Legal and HR.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-moving and dynamic environment and should have a track record of success in effectively working in both matrixed as well as vertical teams. A mix of big company and startup experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and direct operational and transactional product development for Last.fm
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of comprehensive audience development marketing plans for Last.fm
- Development recommendations for achievable target metrics and milestones for product delivery, meeting / exceeding targets for audience reach and engagement, efficient resource utilization, cost management, revenue capability and performance. Succcesfully achieve metrics and milestones for recommended product plans once approved.
- Drive growth in the Last.fm plan for Subscriptions & e-Commerce
- Work effiectively and successfully with partners in key partnership areas including: Scrobbling, Playlinks, APIs, Devices & Mobile
- Partner effectively with matrixed technical resources and raise the bar for output and execution
- Other duties as required by VP Product

Qualifications
- 5+ years interactive strategy, technical, product and general management experience with at least 2 years in a prominent product leadership capacity
- Media (Music / Radio / Video) background a must.
- Corporate strategy background a plus.
- Quick learner who can function well in fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Bachelors Degree at a minimum
- Strong analytical skills and excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills required
- Must be well-organized and able to work on several detailed projects at once
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including presenting work

The VP Product will develop the definitive product strategy and supporting plans with specific detail for user and business value proposition supported by market data, defined success metrics and audience forecast, 18 month roadmap, practical resourcing plan, competitive benchmarking as well as a product performance plan. The VP Product must have experience of applying a disciplined approach to each of the areas within the broader product lifecycle.
Success in the role will be measured based on the combination of overall product quality, effectiveness at achieving defined goals in product strategy for product development, delivery on schedule, meeting / exceeding targets for audience reach and engagement, efficient resource utilization, cost management, revenue capability and performance.

To achieve success in this role, the VP Product will be responsible for leading and managing the following resources:
- Line management responsibility for resources including product management, ux/design, data griot and marketing
- Matrixed responsibility for Last.fm technical teams
- Work effectively with a variety of constituents including Last.fm VP Technology & Technical Team, CBS Interactive Music VP of Product Marketing, VP Field Operations, Executive Director, Editorial Bureau, CBS Interactive Music CTO

C++ Software Engineer, Data and Recommendations

Purpose of Role
We're seeking an exceptional software engineer to join the small and very enthusiastic data and recommendations team at Last.fm. The position is full-time and based in London.

Are you ready to tackle all the challenges that high-performance, data-intensive backend software can put on your way? Do you like thinking about cache lines, memory bandwidth, seek times, and how code constructs are compiled into machine code? At the same time, do you enjoy writing lean, tested, modular code, using the kind of high-level and expressive idioms only Boost and the STL can offer? Do you have experience implementing key-value stores, information retrieval or large-scale machine learning software?

We need a coding wizard to help develop last.fm backend infrastructure, where magic like recommendations, tag clouds, radio playlist or realtime profile charts generation happens.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, test, optimize, maintain, design and build core backend software components
  • Perform research on algorithms for recommendation and scalability related problems
  • Build cool demos with our data
  • Code using primarily C++ (STL/Boost) and Python
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge developing and debugging in C++ on *nix

Interaction Designer (Web)

Purpose of Role
Last.fm is looking for a passionate designer who is excited about joining the web team to improve, iterate on, and design new features for Last.fm’s flagship product: www.last.fm.

Responsibilities
Engage with the webteam to ship great product end-to-end: from initial concepts and research all the way through to pixel perfect interfaces.

• Provide holistic design thinking and strategy across the website to inform new and improved user experiences
• Make use of data (such as Omniture, internal web stats, A/B testing results etc.) to inform your design decisions
• Seek feedback on the usability of your designs through (but not limited to): conducting formative testing/research, user observation, and mining forum feedback
• Turn your ideas into reality using the best tool for the job, including (but not limited to): sketches and drawings, wireframes, storyboards, animations, mock-ups and prototypes
• Engage with web developers (in their language) to solicit ideas, and devise solutions to overcome challenges of different browsers; screen sizes and fluid layout; multiple languages; as well as varying UGC data cases

Purpose & Background of Role
Foster, support, and expand the Last.fm community, provide support for the Customer Support Manager to ensure that Last.fm provides a first class customer support experience for its users.

Deliverables and Responsibilities

Customer Support Intern

Last.fm is looking for an intern to join our Customer Support team. This position is a full-time internship for three months, based in our London office.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Responding to enquiries received from members of the community, through support tickets and in the support forums.
  • Capturing and forwarding new support issues to appropriate parties within the company.
  • Documenting resolved cases in a manner useful for future reference, both internally and externally (e.g. FAQ).
  • Investigating and troubleshooting technical problems and escalating these to the technical team if necessary.
  • Supporting other team members and moderators in moderating user-generated content and community support issues.
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned, such as assisting with quality assessment of upcoming site features and software releases.
Requirements:
  • Experienced user of Last.fm with a very good knowledge of our products.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • A positive customer service attitude.
  • Willingness to investigate technical issues and follow through.
  • Ability to use own initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Good computer software use and basic problem-solving knowledge of software needed to use Last.fm, incl. the Last.fm desktop client and supported web browsers is desired.
  • Knowledge of at least two of the three major computing platforms supported (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX) is advantageous.
  • Previous customer services or IT support experience is advantageous.
