Melodic death metal

Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of metal which combines the melody of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) with the intensity of death metal. The genre is also known as Gothenburg metal, a reference to the city in Sweden where it originated. I recently decided to listen to Persefone's Shin-Ken album, it's taken me far too long. Great epic/progressive melodic death metal. Excellent harsh vocals, too.

hard choice, i LOVE the absence but if i had to pick between them and mors principium est.. i think i would go with MPE. strangely the absence is one of the few good american melodeath bands around, imo.

DT, mors principium est, insomnium, kalmah, eternal tears of sorrow.. i could go on all day and still not come up with a favorite melodeath band :p
