Biography

Massachusetts, United States (1999 – present)

Killswitch Engage is a band from Westfield, Massachusetts, United States.

Formed in 1999 after the disbandment of Overcast and Aftershock. Killswitch Engage’s current lineup consists of vocalist Jesse Leach, bassist Mike D’Antonio, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, and drummer Justin Foley. The band’s membership has changed in the decade since its founding as illness, changes in life-situation, and new interests have drawn the men in different directions. The band has released six studio albums (the latest one being Disarm The Descent (2013) ) and one DVD.

Killswitch Engage rose to fame with its 2004 release The End of Heartache, which peaked at number 21 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold in December 2007 for over 500,000 shipments in the United States. The title track, “The End of Heartache”, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005, and a live DVD titled (Set This) World Ablaze was released in 2005. Killswitch Engage has performed at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Ozzfest, Download Festival, Rock on the Range, Rock Am Ring, Mayhem Festival, and the Australian Soundwave Festival. The band has sold over one-million records in the United States alone and have been widely reffered to as “one of the founders of metalcore.”

Killswitch Engage formed when the two metalcore bands, Overcast and Aftershock disbanded during the late 1990s. Following the disbandment of Overcast in 1998, bassist Mike D’Antonio jammed with Aftershock guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz.

I love how you say everything after the 3rd record is shit when all the albums that followed it essentially used the same formula and style. Then again this is the Internet and your 16 years old.

New record is much better. a couple fillers but Jesse has this intensity about him, not contrived in the choruses even though they are mandatory KSE choruses. It remains to be seen how they evolve with him, the guys playing the music have already done a ton of albums but they've explored the same areas so far.

Listening to some of TEOH. Some of the lyrics are hilarious; 'Weep no more, we will prevail' come on howard that's pathetic. My Curse ripped some parts off that track too. At the time it was fresh and energetic with no one else doing anything like it but the repetition of lyrics, structure and vocal delivery mostly lacking any identifiable aggression or passion that ruin post-AOJB KSE. They do a few amazing tracks like Declaration, This Is Absolution, Rose of Sharyn, A Light In A Darkened World, When Darkness Falls, My Life For Yours and then just throw a load of bland riffs and screams and choruses without any energy in to the rest as filler. They were pretty much pioneers of metalcore at the time with their own sound so I suppose it ain't that bad in context. Now the genre has become even more diluted and placid and that has allowed talentless hacks to run riot pretending they are innovative.

New album is easily the best since Alive or Just Breathing. No offense to Howard but I couldn't stand those vocals, welcome back Jesse!
