San Diego, United States (2000 – present)

As I Lay Dying is an American band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by their vocalist Tim Lambesis and having completed their first Line-up in 2001, the band consists of vocalist Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, lead guitarist Nick Hipa, rhythm guitarist Phil Sgrosso, and bassist Josh Gilbert, all of whom are Christians. Signed to Metal Blade Records, As I Lay Dying has released five studio albums, one split album, and two compilation albums.

As I Lay Dying’s fourth studio album, An Ocean Between Us peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200, and number 1 on the Top Rock chart. The band has performed at Wacken Open Air, With Full Force, Soundwave Festival, Sounds of the Underground, Warped Tour, Bloodstock Open Air and Taste of Chaos. In 2007, As I Lay Dying won the “Ultimate Metal God” award from MTV2 at the first annual “All That Rocks” special, was named “Artist of the Year” at the San Diego Music Awards in 2008 and was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award for the song “Nothing Left”. Their latest album, The Powerless Rise was written over a three year period and was released in May 2010 to widespread critical acclaim.

After leaving the band Society’s Finest where he played guitar, vocalist Tim Lambesis formed As I Lay Dying in 2000.[10]Starting out as a duet with drummer Jordan Mancino after they first met as a band in February 2001, the title of the band was taken from the novel of the same name by William Faulkner although there is no correlation between the band’s musical theme to the theme of the novel.

Wait what, it's the clean vocalist from oh sleeper that's going to sing in wovenwar? I just assumed it was the screamer. What about josh, then?

AILD was a great band, one of those few metalcore bands that were really valid and good at music. It's a great shame that they are probably not going to release new music as AILD. Tim Lambesis is a very talented singer and composer, I only wish he didn't go nuts on steroids...

From the AILD website; "AILD is sleeping rather than dead, and there are two separate projects to hold you over whether or not it is awakened again." I guess those previews were for other bands. It's a shame really... but with Scar Symmetry releasing a trilogy concept and Solution .45 releasing 2 albums i can't complain. Also heard Unmoored releasing something (hoping it's another album). Hopefully the AILD site will continue to post on the side projects the band members have got going on.

It's pretty hard to tell with the link whether the rest of the band is going to stick with AILD as some of the material doesn't sound like it.

I dont understand why people continue to call him christian when he stated by himself what he is not a christian anymore long before hiring a killer. "However, in later years, Lambesis showed an increasing philosophical skepticism towards Christianity and religion in general: Court documents stated Lambesis emailed his wife Meggan in August 2012, while on tour with As I Lay Dying, asking for a divorce and stating he "no longer believed in God"

I agree with vitorsilighini, unfortunately they may have to find a new singer. AILD is my favorite band, I can't judge Tim, hope he figures out whatever he's got going on. It's a shame, he's a phenomenal musician in spite of what everyone is saying, shit happens. I dig his other bands too, especially Pyrithion.

Some of that material doesn't sound much like AILD, but either way, but at least we got some kind of an update!

I was christian once, i was a AILD fan once, i laughed so much reading the story of their singers conviction. Christian missionaries often are the least 'christian' people.
