Biography

Tim Kasher is a musician from Omaha, Nebraska. He is the frontman of groups Cursive and The Good Life, both of which are on the Omaha based label Saddle Creek Records. Prior to those bands, Kasher was in a band called Slowdown Virginia. He also made a brief appearance with the Omaha band Commander Venus and The March Hares.

Kasher has a very close relationship with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. They grew up in Nebraska together, went to the same Catholic high school, Creighton Prep. It is rumored that Tim taught Oberst to play guitar. In the Bright Eyes song, “Nothing Gets Crossed Out” Oberst sings, “yeah Tim I heard your album and it’s better than good. When you get off tour I think we should hang and black out together.” (referring to the album Black Out by The Good Life, released in 2002 on Saddle Creek Records.) Furthermore, Oberst later sang backup on the song “Staying Alive,” from Cursive’s 2003 effort The Ugly Organ.

Kasher temporarily disbanded Cursive after the departure of guitarist Steve Pedersen (who left to pursue a law degree at Duke University. He now leads the Saddle Creek band Criteria). He married and moved to Portland, Oregon. According to interviews, Kasher went through a bitter divorce in 2000, which led to the regrouping of Cursive, as well as providing the inspiration for The Good Life album Black Out, and Cursive’s Domestica.

The Good Life was originally planned to be a solo project. Kasher wanted to experiment with different types of lyrics and melodies.

The 1997 Java Joint bootleg is by far the best thing I've ever heard.

Hands down, the best songwriter of my lifetime. My girlfriend got me tickets to see Cursive in sf ( I live a block away from the venue) and I cannot wait to see Tim again. If you're in SF anytime before the show, I'd like to hang with you.

He was so cool playing Solo Acoustic Emo for the punks between the Mariachi Bronx and The Bronx in Gothenburg. The more piss he had to take from the rude audience the more energy and power he got. True emostyle i suppose. Not familiar with his soloalbums but it was cool to hear a good life song I used to listen to a long time ago! I'd guess quite a tough tour for him if every date on it goes like this. Still very impressive, I'm sure he won some hearts.

Kasher is the monumental musician of my life. The one I'll still be listening to when I'm an old man.

Yep, Monogamy is great indeed! But I can't help but feel that the Bigamy EP is even better. Although it's wrong to compare an album to an ep. All in all, Kasher is a genius and one of the most important, honest, real and passionate artists in the "business". If only more people would realize this simple fact!

Monogamy is awesome. All you people who don't like it are just... so wrong. Also, seeing him play the entire album live... was possibly the greatest Kasher show I've even been to. (I've seen Cursive 3 times, so that's saying a lot). Love ya, Tim <3

I just love the way he combined rock instruments with those of an orchestra in 'The Game of Monogamy'. Makes such a great mix of sentimental and 'huge' sounds. Never expected to like this so much.

I love "The Game of Monogamy." Although Tim does seem to reiterate this theme of failed relationships/marriages, this album specifically goes into depth with that so intimately that it's by far one of the most powerful works he's written.

I really like Tim Kashers work. Really. But seriously, the next album he records, on his own, with Cusive or The Good Life hopefully won't be about dramatic relationships. One more album could be one too much.

seems half-assed. problem is, he probably put his whole ass into it. which makes sense, since the album is ass.
