Omaha, Nebraska, United States (1995 – 1998, 1999 – present)

Cursive is an band from Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The band records for the label Saddle Creek Records and, along with Bright Eyes, is one of its flagship artists. The band was formed in 1995 by Tim Kasher, Matt Maginn, Steve Pedersen (all formerly of Slowdown Virginia), and drummer Clint Schnase. In 1997, they released Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes. After a few years of touring the band broke up in 1998. They posthumously released The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song in the fall of that year. A year later in the summer of 1999 the band reformed. Pedersen had started law school so Ted Stevens (formerly of Lullaby for the Working Class) stepped in and joined the band. In 2000, their album, Domestica, a concept album written like a one-act play documenting the lies, hate and deceit associated with a divorce, gained them much attention from fans and critics alike and they toured with At the Drive-In.

Cursive added Gretta Cohn in 2001 on cello. The strings added complimentary sounds to that summer’s Burst and Bloom. In 2002, the band toured on the Take Action! Tour.

Saddle Creek Records released The Ugly Organ in 2003, a series of internal monologues that reflects insecurities and self-doubt amidst the turmoil of life on an ever-turning emotional carousel.

Aside from "Sun and Moon" (which annoys me to no end), this is a really awesome album.

the setlist at the show I went to was really even. from memory and in no particular order: Big Bang, Dorothy at Forty, Retreat!, Red So Deep, The Martyr, From The Hips, We're Going to Hell, I Couldn't Love You, Art is Hard, Some Red Handed Sleight of Hand, Mothership (!!!), This House Alive, Warmer Warmer, Twin Dragon/Skeletons, The Sun and Moon, The Cat and Mouse. I agree with the guy below. There is no purpose to this album. This review sums up my feelings quite nicely: http://popstache.com/album-review/cursive-i-am-gemini/

'All the best wishes were blown...' - Break in the New Year I really want him to hate everything again. I loved Cursive due to their negative emotions which were so close to me and their songs helped me so many times. This album is cute and its lyrics are tragic. But where is f*cking emo? Where is your ruptured throat, Tim? Where are your frustrations and experience? After 'Mama, I'm swallen' I feared that the next album would be positioned as written in (let's call a spade a spade) pop-punk genre. Now I see everything but what I loved in this band before. Sorry everyone, 'I am Gemini' is still good, but I just waited for the other impression of my favorite band named Cursive.

The Sun and Moon definitely has that single feel but I think that the rest of the album is pretty solid. The last two albums had to grow on me, something about this one is perfect though. The fact that it's written out like a play really painted a different picture than just listening too. Maybe that's just me though. Eh, I think this album rules

I Am Gemini is quickly becoming a favorite, it does remind me a lot of Ugly Organ for some reason. Kasher can do no wrong.
