About This Track

A simple four chord melody, a world of love, death, beauty, and confusion. The beauty of the world is realised, but the realisation that things can change or even go “In a blink of an eye” makes Mangum want to savouir it even more. Scott Spillane’s horn powers the song into the second verse with an brooding arangment, Julian Koster’s singing saw wobbles and dances around Mangum’s voice. Here the first hints of Anne Frank appear, and they are all around Mangum. The disregard of space and time enables Mangum to ‘remember’ her. She has been lost to the world forever, but she can live on in those that loved her and her diary, a point reiterated in the song “Ghost”. Mangum sums up this confusing beauty with the last line of the song, a line we’ve all thought about but never been able to put in such beautifully simple words as Mangum does.
