    Indie = the charlatans ....... Simples. Madchester rave on :-) It's as much as where u are from as it is where you are at. They even had there own indie label 'Dead Dead Good'. So that's gotta be that :-)

    There are a LOT of bands that are not indie (in any way, shape, or form) that somehow got that tag. I'm with Masamundane's theory as far as the common kid's definition of indie today.

    Well, the Charlatans aren't indie in the way some music listeners would consider it, but today's generation? Indie pretty much means 'not on MTV' to them, so that's likely how the tag got there.
