Brooklyn NY, United States (2007 – present)

The Antlers are an indie rock band currently based in Brooklyn, New York, fronted by Peter Silberman. Initially, The Antlers was a solo project created by vocalist and guitarist Silberman immediately after he had moved to Brooklyn, New York, in 2007. Silberman wrote the first two albums, “Uprooted” and “In the Attic of the Universe” by himself and under his own name. Afterwards, he recruited Lerner and Cicci, becoming a collaborative group. The band recorded two EPs: “Cold War” and “New York Hospitals”. Silberman’s collection of songs (which was mentioned as an “elegy for his planned disappearance”) would later become a full-length album titled “Hospice” and would feature an epic storyline, telling the analogy of an abusive relationship through the tale of a man losing a loved one to cancer. Silberman has stated that the album is mostly auto-biographical. The album was independently released by the band in March of 2009, selling an apparently overwhelming number of copies, later selling all of their stock and had to produce more. The band later commented that they had “bit off more than they could chew”. The album received critical praise for both its narrative and musicianship and has since been listed on several “Album of the Year” lists. The band later signed with New York-based French Kiss Records. The label released a remastered “Hospice” on August 18, 2009.

I know this is pretty shameless self-promotion, but if you're into ambient/soundscapes/etc., you might like my new release, Summer Ghosts. It's ambient music inspired by amazing talents like Sigur Rós, Jonsí & Alex, Brian Eno, Tycho, and more, so check it out if you'd like! You can find both of my releases at Have a good one.

I think that it is the hallmark of a truly amazing band when we can reach no consensus regarding whether one of two excellent albums is the best.

Yeah familiars is a truly spectacular album. I really am starting to hold it on the same level as Hospice, it's just that they're such different affairs that they aren't even in the same arena.

If you like The Antlers, you might like ambient lo-fi folk act The Noises We Make When No One Is Around. The debut ep is available on Bandcamp on September 29th but until then, you can listen via Soundcloud; Enjoy!

"Director" is a song that commands silence while listening, something that The Antlers have mastered. The song is tucked into the conclusion of this playlist and makes for an interesting combo with the electronic acts that follow. Check it out!-

Saw these guys at a free show last Friday, on the 15th, and it was amazing. So intimate, I feel lucky to have experienced it.

again, important to remember those are two entirely different beasts, and what stands out within each is completely different than that of the other. This is a very good band.

man idk what you guys are talking about. Familiars might give Hospice a run for it's money. It's incredible.

I fucking adore Familiars, but I also have that purist ideal in that I want a repeat of Hospice. I've never been so conflicted on an album.
