minimal refers to minimalism referring to 20th century classical music, actually. what's the difference between slowcore and shoegaze? slowcore doesn't necessarily require elements of shoegaze in the first place. any alternative rock played really slowly is definitively slowcore. I mean, should those bands who now sound nothing like their parent genres be lumped in with indie rock or dream pop or americana or post-hardcore or shoegaze? that's for you to decide. slowcore is a rad as hell name anyway. sadcore, however, is pretty terrible, implying a level of overwrought melodrama that gets in the way of the music that isn't even sad most of the time.

still think this and "sadcore" are terrible labels. and "minimal" typically refers to minimal techno or ambient music. minimal rock anyone? oh whatever. good music is good music, and many bands that are casually lumped under this tag are damn fine. Early Day Miners has to be one of my favorite bands, period.

I love when people get worked up about genres. Genres can be anything you want them to be, it's just a way of filtering what you want to listen to. If you don't like it, just tag everything as 'music' and shut the fuck up. [5]
