About This Track

A song by Beirut which features on their first album, The Gulag Orkestar, and also in another form on the “Lon Gisland EP”. The former is a bedroom pop-fuelled ballad, featuring Condon singing over keyboard synths and an upbeat drum sound, with synthed strings filling in the gaps later on. On the EP however, the song is replicated with physical instruments. An organ makes up most of the texture of the track with Beirut’s trademark brass taking on the countermelody further into the track.

It’s a firm favourite of both the band and the audience live, and is usually played towards the end of the set.

So does anybody actually like this version *better*? I do. To me it feels really neat and understated, and I think it sounds better at the slightly faster speed.

I think there's room for both versions. Sometimes a little bit o' lo-fi is fun :)

Both versions are great in their own way. Although I think I like the Lon Gisland a little more... I still haven't been able to listen to anything else from Beirut because I just have to have this song on repeat.

Wow. I had already decided not to like Beirut, but this is swaying me big time.

The EP version is obviously better, but I LOVE the album version as well because it breaks up some of the heaviness and monotony of Gulag Orkestar
