v It's a subculture. Though, much like any other subculture, fashion and music are a few of the components in it. Though I have already stated in my point, it cannot be defined by one genre, but instead by a shared point of view. Genres define a specific sound of music as opposed to thematic and lyrical ideas.

Steampunk is an inconsistant term as it ranges from classical crossover (Clockwork Dolls) to hip-hop (Dr. Steel) and electro-pirate shanties or whatever the hell Abney Park are. However, what common ground they do share are the styles found in cabaret and theatre entertainment that encircle Victorian revival themes or in this case we know as steampunk. There are of varying levels however and each one of these artists still consist of a different base of music.
