About this album

Polyvinyl Record Company 12 tracks (40:06)
Reptilians is the second full-length album and first on indie label Polyvinyl by Portland, Oregon quartet Starfucker. It was released March 6th, 2011. Since, the album has accrued a score of 71 on the review aggregate site Metacritic, citing “generally favorable reviews.” The most enthusiastic of these reviews was a perfect “A” from The Onion’s AV Club, in which the album is called “An exuberant, life-affirming synth-rock gem.”

Lyrically, Reptilians focuses primarily on death and the end of the world, two intertwined subjects at the forefront of frontman Josh Hodges’ mind following the passing of his grandmother. Just as with the band’s previous two releases, Reptilians was written almost entirely by principal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hodges.

The group’s sound was also bolstered by the addition of drummer Keil Corcoran and producer Jacob Portrait (The Dandy Warhols, Mint Chicks).

Hodges first recorded the album’s primary tracks in his bedroom and on the road while the band, rounded out by bassist Shawn Glassford and guitarist Ryan Biornstad, toured the country this past year. Then, Starfucker convened with Portrait at various Portland studios to record the drums as well as add a few final flourishes.
