Angel, the first track on the album Mezzanine is a highly emotional trip-hop tune featuring Horace Andy's vocals. The song evokes dark and sinister cries from the slow and repetitive percussion and then strikes a distressed melody with an electric guitar drowning through the sonic atmosphere of the piece.

The song has been featured in the movies "Snatch" (2000), "Flight of the Phoenix" (2004) and several others as well as TV series such as "The West Wing", "Person of Interest"… read more

This is song totally awesome, but at the same time - Massive Attack being who they are - so massively underhanded [no pun intended], it took me a long time realize how awesome it actually is. It moves slowly, but it builds up enough tension to disrupt a major galaxy, and then it erupts, but still in slow-mo At that point, though, it has enough momentum so it doesn't need to move quickly - such a leviathan is unstoppable, anyway. Even today, nearly 20 years after its release, the tension this song builds up is incredible.

I love the echoing percussion. [2] Wish there was a proper name for it. "Drag beat" sounds appropriate, but then again "drag" is supposed to be like a subgenre of witch-house or something which this is obviously not. Haloblack uses this kind of percussion all the time, if you're looking for something similar.
