Germany (1978 – present)

Helloween is a power/heavy/speed metal band from Germany founded in 1978 by members of Iron Fist and Powerfool, as Gentry. Helloween are known as major innovators of power metal.

Members today are:
Andi Deris – Vocals,
Michael Weikath – Guitar, Backing vocals,
Sascha Gerstner – Guitar, Backing vocals,
Markus Grosskopf – Bass, Backing vocals
and Daniel Löble – Drums

The original line-up featured:
Kai Hansen (Vocals/Guitars),
Michael Weikath (Guitars),
Markus Grosskopf (Bass)
and Ingo Schwichtenberg (Drums).

In 1984 the band had signed a deal with Noise Records and recorded two songs for a Noise compilation record called Death Metal. The two tracks were “Oernst Of Life” by Weikath, and Hansen’s “Metal Invaders” which later on ended up in a faster version on the band’s first full-length album.

1985 came around and Helloween then recorded their first record Helloween, a self-titled EP containing 5 tracks. The EP was successful, and during that same year they recorded and released their first full-length album titled Walls of Jericho which became a critical smash, with its innovative mixture of speed and melodies. (In Fact, WWE Wrestler Chris Jericho took his stage name from the album, as well as the name of his signature submission move Walls Of Jericho). However, during the following tour, it became obvious that Kai had difficulties singing and playing the guitar at the same time. Kai’s last performance as the band’s lead-singer came in 1986 in form of a single EP titled Judas, which contained the song “Judas” along with some live tracks. After that Helloween began the search for a new vocalist…

"I want to get half a dollar every time someone says they ended with the Keepers and a dollar when someone says they ended with the Walls." I can see why; you'd never have to work if such a system existed.

Mind the difference between "I like/don't like this album" and "this album is good/bad". I agree, some people speak only in "universal truths". I'm probably too old to care about people telling me I should "listen to this instead of that". And that my favourite album of all time should be Kot7K1, because it's the best/everybody's favourite album of all time.

@AinaeL : Yeah yeah, surely some reading comprehension required. I understand enough to see when some people act like they speak the only truth about metal. This page might not be the most representative of those annoying mentalities I agree, but it is still true.

@ Liafev You are wrong because it would be true metalhead affirmation as you said, just when somebody would said that rest albums are a crap and anyone who listens it, is a shithead. And no one here pretend to represent worlds taste. So, some reading comprehension required.

Well, saying "everything after (that) is crap" is once again a big "true metalhead" (whatever that is) affirmation. I'm tired of this bullshit I don't like this album so this is crap. Get the fuck away, you don't represent the world's tastes. As for my opinion, I think they've made some fucking good albums in the 2000', especially with Gambling With The Devil which is their best for me. I'm kinda disappointed with the last one though. I don't think there is enough "power" in it. It sounds like a more "classic" power metal album.

The new album... well, mixed feelings. The first half felt really bland for me. "Well, there was something and something and this part where I thought of Sweet and that other part where I thought of something I can't even remember now... so that was" Then after around the ninth there were some songs I really liked and then some more good ones. But the lyrics... I just don't know anymore. Last album they were trying like crazy to sell their souls to rock'n'roll and go to Hell, burning churches with science along the way. Now they're aiming for Heaven and a greater purpose... What's up next, stuck in Limbo?

Waste can be recycled . Shit can turn manure. But the audible noise produced by Helloween serves no purpose
