Masterplan is the name of at least two bands. They are:

(1) A German Power Metal band, was founded by Uli Kusch and Roland Grapow after leaving Helloween.

Jorn Lande (ex- Ark and Beyond Twilight) was the vocalist until May 2006, due to a dispute between him and Roland and Uli, as he wanted to make the third album more melodic, whereas Roland and Uli wanted to make it more heavy like the self-titled debut. On 5th October 2006, Uli Kusch announced his departure from the band, and was replaced by Mike Terrana. Mike DiMeo (ex- Riot) was Masterplan’s vocalist for their album, MKII.

Jorn Lande had rejoined Masterplan after years of outrage from fans but has since left the band again. The current vocalist is Rick Altzi.

The band has released five albums: Masterplan (2003), Aeronautics (2005), MK II (2007), Time to be King (2010) and Novum Initium (2013), as well as four EPs, Enlighten Me (2002), Back For My Life (2004), Lost And Gone (2007), Far From The End Of The World (2010).

(2) In the 1970s, a soul combo called Masterplan recorded “Clinton Park” and other tunes on the De-Lite label.

damn it! Rick is a great singer and all but you can really tell the difference when Jorn is on vocals. Lande has such a unique voice and range that he immediately improves Masterplan's music. Too bad for the band, although they keep making fantastic music, for now, IMHO, they are going to be just another metal act on the overpopulated prog/power scene.

Saw them at R-Mine metalfest few months ago, and it was great. Rick did excellent on the old material. Having listened to the album on Spotify I can safely say Masterplan is far from dead, but alive and well.

Rick is the most funny and energetic on stage of all 3 singers they've had.

Masterplan is probably Jorn's second best band, after Ark.

I'm sorry, I can't get into their new vocalist. It seems to me that I'm not listening to Masterplan but to At Vance. He's good but he really ruins the band's atmosphere for me.

Killer show at Masters ofRock, mostly due to the excellence of the debut, a masterwork of power metal

I don't understand what kind of problem you all have with Jorn. Personally I'm a big fan of both Jorn and Masterplan. Obviously I'm disappointed that Jorn isn't singing with Masterplan anymore, but I LOVE Jorn solo work. Yes, every album is similiar. But Jorn is using same style, but isn't over exploiting it. I cannot point two songs that sound the same, use same riff etc. They all are made of same hard n' heavy jornish style, but every song is different and is developing and expanding this style. I love every Jorn release, and honestly, "Traveller" is a KILLER release. Try it ;)

I really thought this wouldn't work not because of "no Jorn" but because of Rick. Apparently, I was wrong and it damn worked, this is the music Rick needs to sing along with, not something like Thunderstone, even on Dirt Metal. Novum Initium is a great album, trademark Roland style songwriting is still here and concerning those "other" tracks after the first 3 killers, it's better than it usually is. The only weak spot is Earth Is Going Down, the rest is from good to awesome, especially Through Your Eyes and Return from Avalon. The Game, Black Night of Magic and Keep Your Dream Alive are incredible, especially the latter, brought tears to my eyes with its passion. The epic is good, not as stellar as Black in the Burn maybe but still coherent and catchy. 1492 is another good song unlike Fear the Silence, but well, that's a bonus anyway. Overall, one of the big pleasant surprises of the year, well-deserved 8/10.
