Winston-Salem NC, United States (1995 – 2005, 2010 – present)

Codeseven was formed in 1995 as a band in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Their first release, A Sense of Coalition gained popularity on college radio stations for an intense cover of Don Henley’s “The Boys Of Summer” (not to be confused with The Ataris’ cover of the same song that became a mainstream radio hit years later). With subsequent releases Division of Labor and The Rescue, the band continually became less aggressive and more melodic, eventually abandoning their roots in favor of , , much as Cave In had done. Their final album, Dancing Echoes/Dead Sounds was released in 2004 on Equal Vision. In 2005, the band broke up in order to pursue different opportunities. 2010 sees their reformation and they are currently touring

best show ever was when these guys were in their melodic hardcore stage and did a floor show at a church & setup static television screens & controlled these big flood lights while flashing them to the music. i'll never forget it. think they played with pg. 99 and majority rule, but might have been darkest hour. floor shows are the best.

I saw Codeseven play with dredg almost 10 years ago and they were fucking amazing live. I've also seen them play at at other venues where their sound was horrible. IMO their subtle, nuanced style of space-rock doesn't come across well in shitty venues with poor sound setups, whereas a band like Circa Survive is going to power through and sound great in most places. DE / DS is a phenominal album and I'm sad it was their last.

I doubt I'll ever see Codeseven live over here, so listening to the Rescue as a starting point, this band sound a-ok to me.
