Miami, Florida (1997 – present)

Poison the Well is an experimental band from Miami, Florida that formed in 1997. They are currently signed to Ferret Records. Guitarist Ryan Primack and drummer Chris Hornbrook are the only remaining members of the band who have been involved since their first album, although vocalist Jeffrey Moreira has been the singer on all five full-length albums.

History

Poison the Well was originally named “An Acre Lost” and was started by original singer Aryeh Lehrer and original guitarist Ryan Primack. Shortly after their first release as “An Acre Lost”, a 12” split with Promise No Tomorrow on Ohev Records, the name of the band was changed to Poison the Well. Poison the Well released their first album Distance Only Makes The Heart Grow Fonder in 1998. The album gained them the attention of Trustkill Records who signed them to a multi-album deal. PTW released their first album with Trustkill in 1999, The Opposite of December… A Season of Separation. Trustkill has a strong underground following in the United States, and popularity and some success was achieved. To this day, Guitar World magazine still dubs “The Opposite of December…” one of the greatest albums of all-time, ranking number 8.

    You really love making assumptions you know nothing about. "this music is supposed to sound raunchy ..." Maybe they didn't have the money to put out a better recording? and saying it's a sad day for PTW. why? because they wan't to put out a better recording they may have not been able to 13 years ago? It's really simple, if you don't want to listen to the remaster, don't . You will always have the old recording. Lastly, you don't know me, how do you know my life sucks? oh wait...making shit up again.

    Am I the only one that doesn't want a re-release? It's perfect the way it is... the way it's meant to be heard. I don't need one of my favorite albums ever, fall victim to the wave of overly produced, too clean sounding albums that have been coming out since 2004. This music is meant to be raunchy, and sound like it was recorded in a basement with egg cartons on the walls and ceilings. Why do you think most bands first albums are always their best? Low budget recordings that's why. Theres no soul in modern hardcore anymore. For me it's a sad day that PTW is doing the same thing that It Dies Today did to their Foever Scorned EP. I'm fine with the album I bought 12 years ago, It sounds just as good now, as it did then. And why does Tear From The Red need a reissue? That album sounds just fine the way it is. Lets just pray Hopesfall doesn't follow suit and reissue Satelite Years, and No Wings To Speak of, I would kill someone... no shit. Same goes for Skycamefalling.. yep i'm old school.
