So long now
Since you walked and left me
Why did your love grow cold?
Don't you think you need me?

  • Steve Goodman wrote this in 1970. He wrote the lyrics on a sketch pad after his wife fell asleep on the Illinois Central train, where they were going to visit his wife's grandmother. Goodman wrote about what he saw looking out the windows of the train and playing cards in the club car. Everything in the song actually happened on the ride. After he returned home he heard the train was scheduled to be decommissioned do to lack of passengers. He was encouraged to use this song to save the train. He retouched the lyrics and released it on his first album in 1971. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2878
  • Excellent song. The dirty little hippie draft dodging freak's performance is not bad either.
  • great song Steve Goodman wrote this one
  • Have a double LP with Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger playing and singing live together. Arlo has never left the shadow of his father Woody Guthrie. Seeger and Woody were good friends. Think, that was the reason for this album. A Guthrie played with a Seeger.
  • Great Memories and times ;-)
  • I'm listening to Arlo Guthrie now on Phil Ochs Radio. We have a Last FM group called "Broadside Balladeers" that I invite you to check out and join. Here is the link to my new journal blog that was published for discussion yesterday, "Phil Ochs Being Remembered and Celebrated These Days! 10-31-13 A BroadsideBallad Journal at Last FM by Vic Sadot". Check it out too! http://www.last.fm/user/broadsideballad/journal/2013/10/31/5y4nim_phil_ochs_being_remembered_&_celebrated_these_days!_10-31-13
