Richard P. "Richie" Havens (born January 21, 1941; died April 22, 2013) was an American folk singer and guitarist. He is best remembered for his intense, rhythmic guitar style (often in open tunings), soulful covers of pop and folk songs, and his opening performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.

    I saw Richie at the Filmore East back in 1969 for my 10th birthday because my favorite album was Mixed Bag (I wish I could have seen him at Woodstock but I guess I was too young). I have owned his music on record, cassette, CD and digitally. I listen to him all the time. Thanks for the memories and the beautiful music. RIP
