Chiptune is a style of electronic music where all sounds are created using computer or video game console sound chips. More recently, the term has also been used to describe music that sounds like genuine chip music but that is created using more advanced technology, such as software emulators. huh? the vast majority of great chiptune was written in the 80s and 90s and played back with 8-bit computers. Unless you mean DPCM samples don't count but most composers can make great percussion with just the noise channel

Meh, the vast majority of great chiptune doesn't limit itself to 8-bit sounds only. Pure 8-bit is generally pretty boring. Little Scale is the only exception that comes to mind.
