Biography
New York City (2003 – present)
Anamanaguchi is a four-piece group from New York City that combines guitars with the thick, electronic tones of a Nintendo Entertainment System. With driving, dynamic and melodic tracks, they focus on creating sounds that seem bigger than their hardware. Anamanaguchi is Peter Berkman (guitar, songwriting), Ary Warnaar (guitar, songwriting), James DeVito (bass), and Luke Silas (‘knife city’, drums). A member of the artist collective 8bitpeoples, Peter Berkman has been creating chiptune music since 2003. Their debut, ‘Power Supply’ EP, was released in 2006 as a free download through 8bitpeoples and has since received over 50,000 downloads.
On March 3, 2009 they released their first full-length album, ‘Dawn Metropolis’, featuring 7 songs that pushed the chiptune-rock formula to a new level and included a website full of visuals for the tracks. The following Summer the band began releasing free downloadable “summer singles” on their website: ‘Airbrushed’, ‘My Skateboard Will Go On’, Aurora (Meet Me in the Stars)’, and ‘Mess’. August 24, 2010 saw the release of ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (Original Videogame Soundtrack)’ for the game based off the graphic novel & movie by author Bryan Lee O’Malley, who had hand picked the group to create the soundtrack.
At the dawn of 2013, they announced their next album with their first live action music video featuring a new single Meow. During a hugely successful Kickstarter Campaign with the promise of making it “more than just an album”, the band released ‘Endless Fantasy’, a 22-track full-length album on May 14, 2013 under their own record label, ‘dream.hax’.
