Mutts is a current rock band formed in 2009 by Mike Maimone (keyboards/vocals), Bob Buckstaff (bass) and Chris Faller (drums). Based in Chicago, IL, the group released 3 EPs in their first year together; Pretty Pictures, We Float and The Tells of Parallels. Each of these are available for free download (or name-your-own-price) at www.muttsmusic.com The first Mutts LP - Pray for Rain - will be released on December 13, 2011.
The concept for Mutts arose in June 2009, while Buckstaff and Maimone were playing bass and keyboards, respectively, for Wind-Up Records act Company of Thieves. Maimone, a session keyboardist and songwriter who had recently recorded his first solo album - Open Mic Nights, Empty Bottle Mornings - had accumulated a number of song ideas while on tour. Buckstaff had recently been a member of Wax on Radio, on Downtown Records. He suggested that they take these new songs and record them live with minimal editing and spontaneous arrangements. They booked 3 studio days with engineer Jon Alvin, and decided that whatever was recorded would be their first EP. They then asked Faller to join them on drums, who had recently left The Hush Sound, in which he played bass.
