Marnie Stern is a New York City, USA musician, songwriter and guitarist. She has garnered much acclaim for her technical skill and finger-tapping style of guitar play. Her début album was “In Advance Of The Broken Arm” (Feb 2007, Kill Rock Stars)
The début was favourably received by critics, especially The New York Times: “The year’s most exciting rock ‘n’ roll album.” In mid 2007, Stern toured the album, in the USA and UK, with Hella’s Zach Hill and The Advantage’s Robby Moncrieff. In 2008, Venus magazine’s Spring issue named her as one of the Greatest Female Guitarists Of All Time and she was nominated Female Artist Of The Year and Punk Album Of The Year, for the 2008 Plug Music Awards.
Stern’s second album, “This Is it and I Am it and You Are it and so Is That and He Is it and She Is it and it Is it and That is That” (7 Oct 2008, Kill Rock Stars), was judged by Pitchfork Media as Best New Music and #44 on The 50 Best Albums Of 2008. She toured the album, in Europe and the USA, with former U.S. Maple guitarist Mark Shippy, bassist Malia James and a variety of drummers.
Her eponymous third album, “Marnie Stern” (5 Oct 2010, Kill Rock Stars), yielded the single “For Ash” (26 Jul 2010, Kill Rock Stars). A cassette release of early demos, “Demo” (Jan 2011, Dog Daze Tapes) came soon after.
Stern has cited influences, including: Hella, Lightning Bolt, Deerhoof, Erase Errata, Don Caballero, U.S.
