It is David Lindley. Saw the two of them live a couple of months ago. It was like "Running On Empty" all over again. Fantastic show.

not sure-but i would suspect the fiddle is the great david lindley(he has a solo album where he tears up some fiddle)

Good post zaqry, I absolutely concur. There's some great fiddle playing on this; anyone know who it is?

This recording is stunning (vocal, instrumental, lyrics, the interpretation). I'll check for the Gary Davis version (below), but I did look for other and "original" versions before. Several artists (including JB here) have manipulated the lyrics (and music?), but this recording has always been very special (like the album). I think it is the one recorded in the proverbial "hole-in-the-wall" hotel room in Edwardsville, IL. The Running on Empty album liner notes detail the recording while touring. I think it is "Rosie" that has a really cool mid-song splice from studio (or similar) to a stage performance. And "Nothing but time" was recorded in the back of a bus (can hear the gears shifting as they are driving down the road). emilythecamel wrote: September 2008 Jackson Browne sure isn't Gary Davis but he does a nice job of taking this classic and doing it his way.
