About this album

Version 2.0 is the second album by alternative rock group Garbage. It was released in worldwide in May 1998 and was the follow up to the band’s multi-platinum debut album Garbage. Despite a slow start, Version 2.0 went on to equal its predecessor, becoming platinum-certified in many territories.

Like their first record, Garbage promoted Version 2.0 with a year-long tour, and by releasing a string of hit singles backed with boundary-pushing promotional videos. In 1999, Version 2. 0 was nominated for Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album, and its third single Special was further nominated the following year for Best Rock Song and for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.

Building on framework sound and style Garbage established on their debut set, Version 2.0 featured musical references to the sixties, seventies and eighties, songs featuring live strings, over 100 recorded tracks and interpolations of both the Beach Boys and The Pretenders. The band claimed that the goal of Version 2.0 was to create a rapprochement between the “high-tech and low-down, the now sound and of golden memories”.

I think this album was one of the ones I loved growing up that foreshadowed an interest in new wave...this and a Blondie best of.

darok the release date is often whenever the label uploaded the data to last fm, and they just dont bother to correct it because they have thousands of releases uploaded using a program.

I remember taking long walks around the neighborhood, brooding with contempt for the world. This was usually in the Walkman.

"I used to listen to this in the 90s. Pretty good stuff. It is nice to rediscover it 10 years later and still find it good." Same here :)

I haven't listen to this in years and wow. It holds up very well. I thought it would sound cheesy and dated but maybe only 2-3 songs are throwaways. Solid album after 15 years.

My original was literally scratched and ruined after playing non-stop during various house moves for 2 years at the end of the 90's. Re-bought it again last week, and forgot how immense this record is. One of those ones I can listen to from start to end without skipping a single track. So glad to have this back in my life. I had forgotten how relevant it was. Underrated gold.
