Biography

Austria (1998 – present)

Edenbridge is a band from Austria which was founded as a studio-project by guitarist/keyboardist Lanvall, bassist Kurt Bednarsky, and vocalist Sabine Edelsbacher in 1998. With the addition of drummer Roland Navratil the line-up was completed for the production of their debut album Sunrise in Eden. Current members are Sabine Edelsbacher (vocals), Lanvall (guitars, keyboards), Frank Bindig (bass), Dominik Sebastian (guitars), and Max Pointner (drums). Former members include Kurt Bednarsky (bass), Georg Edelmann (guitars), Andreas Eibler (guitars), Martin Mayr (guitars), Robert Schoenleitner (guitars), and Sebastian Lanser (drums).

1999

… the recording of Sunrise in Eden took place in the Seagull Music Studio belonging to sound magician Gandalf. In the same year Edenbridge signed a worldwide deal with the German label Massacre Records.

2000

… the CD was mixed in the House of Audio studios (Vanden Plas, Pink Cream 69, D.C. Cooper, Axxis) by Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69). The impressive CD artwork was created by Markus Meyer, who also painted two Nightwish album covers. The album was released on the 25th of September. In February, Georg Edelmann joined the band as a second guitar player. In November/December Edenbridge supported their label mates Axxis and Pink Cream 69 on a European tour.

Yeah, I'm always trying to introduce people to symphonic metal too. If Edenbridge clone anything it's their own sound, and I'm not complaining :3 Solitaire wasn't interesting enough for me though, most songs lacked distinction. Katra doesn't sound like Sabine to me, though ironically Katra (on her first album) is the only vocalist I've ever thought sounded anything like post-Wishmaster Tarja. And Emmalise, you're a genius. Seriously, that's an amazing thought :)

"I think they've gone more generic recently, and are drowning into the flood of these many Nightwish clo- uhm, what I mean to say is, "female fronted symphonic metal bands" Ironically, "female fronted symphonic metal bands" are the furthest thing from generic in certain parts of the world *coughUSAcough* and I'm trying very hard to get people interested so more bands are willing to come together and create something more refreshing than the NW rehash. I do not consider Edenbridge a clone though, because I have yet to hear another vocalist similar to Sabine, except maybe Katra.

Am I the only one who has ever thought that Edenbridge (or, at least, The Grand Design and subsequent albums) are what it would sound like if The Carpenters went metal?

V I think they once were better than they are now. They used to keep things simple. They were like a light-coke version of Nightwish, yet not too close. Very pleasant-sounding. I think they've gone more generic recently, and are drowning into the flood of these many Nightwish clo- uhm, what I mean to say is, "female fronted symphonic metal bands". >:) :(

Alright, for as long I could remember, people raved about this band but I never got into them. What's a good album for an Edenbridge newbie?
