Biography

Styria, Austria (2000 – present)

Visions of Atlantis is an Austrian band that formed in Styria, Austria in 2000. The band currently consists of Mario Plank (male vocals), Martin Harb (keyboards, synthesizer), Mario Lochert (bass), Werner Fiedler (guitars), Thomas Caser (drums), and Maxi Nil (female vocals)

The original line-up consisted of Nicole Bogner (female vocals), Christian Stani (male vocals), Werner Fiedler (guitars), Mike Koren (bass), Chris Kamper (keyboards), and Thomas Caser (drums). Inspiration came both from successful band Nightwish and from the myth of Atlantis. The equal combination of male and female vocals distinguishes Visions of Atlantis from Nightwish though and is more reminiscent of Lacuna Coil.

A first demo, “Morning In Atlantis”, was released in 2000. In 2001 they signed with TTS Media Music/Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 their first album, “Eternal Endless Infinity”, was released. 2003 saw a change in line-up, replacing Christian Stani with Mario Plank and Chris Kamper with Miro Holly. Now with Napalm Records, Visions of Atlantis released their second album, “Cast Away”, in 2004. Since then a few more band members have left and joined. In 2005 Nicole Bogner was replaced by Melissa Ferlaak (formerly with Aesma Daeva) and Wolfgang Koch replaced Werner Fiedler. In 2006 Martin Harb, who already played with Visions of Atlantis on their tour in Mexico in 2003, replaced Miro Holly.

In May 2007, their third album, “Trinity”, was released. In September 2007, they began their first North American tour with Epica.

Cast Away was my favorite album til the new one release! Ethera is awesome 'cause they've dropped much the power metal elements; with accented synthesizer; aggressive male vocals in some tracks; drums are somewhat progressive that drives rhythmically towards being SUPERB!

Enjoyable new album, not Earth-shattering, but enjoyable. Think it will take a few listens

Ethera disappointed me in every possible way. No, wait, disappointment is too soft expression, I'd rather call it BAD. Not worth listening more than just once. It's sad because I liked their previous albums.

I don't understand the bands. So much symphonic metal bands use less orchestrations on their newest albums. WT, Delain and now Visions of atlantis. I don't know the reason for that. It's really bad for me. Because the are my favourite bands and I don't like it when one of these bands change their musicstyle.

wouldn't say it like that but well...First I asked myself "is this really voa??" its sad that mario's got not really many vocal parts...all about maxi. not a good thing since I thought HE has the special voice...and where are the symphonic elements? well..I got through this album a little bit after some spins but at track 8 its get hard
