Bielefeld, Germany (1994 – 1997, 1999 – present)

Xandria is a German band that formed in Bielefeld, Germany, in 1994. According to the band, Xandria unifies modern rock with mystic soundscapes into a soundtrack of a different, really characteristic world. In Xandria’s world, everyone is allowed to be as vulnerable as strong, to show feelings and to live all beautiful dreams which seem forbidden in the cold reality. “We want to give our audience courage - on their way back to everyday-life - to manage to also there stand for their feelings and to be strong enough to get through all pains and obstacles.”

1994 - 1997
A predecessor of the band was formed by Marco Heubaum (guitars, keyboards), drawing inspiration from Bands like Tiamat and Paradise Lost. This band was already named Xandria, but due to musical dissension between the members, they parted ways in 1997.

1999 - 2009
In 1999 Marco Heubaum started Xandria again with new musicians. A demo was recorded in 2000, and they presented the five songs on the internet. After great success on different MP3 portals, they released their first album Kill The Sun in 2003, which reached #98 on the German music charts. The sophomore Ravenheart (2004), stayed on the charts for 7 weeks, reaching #36. In 2005 they released their third album India, which is more oriented to the . Their fourth album Salomé - The Seventh Veil, released in 2007, was a step away from the bombastic sound of the two predecessors and at least in Germany not such a big success as “Ravenheart” or “India”.

Yes, Van, Xandria did very well....but Manuella didn't. I preffer not to post all of my disappointment with her here because I still love Xandria and, having met personally the guys of the band and having the opportunity to chat with them and know the amazing people they are, I have a huge respect for them and their work...and also because I've been annoyed by tarja-tards who simply don't know how to respect other people's opinion for years, so I won't do the same as them and sound like a Lisa/Kerstin-tard. I'm glad everyone liked the album, it's very good for the band...I really hope for their success from the bottom of my heart. And that's all....

If you look behind the heavier bombastic sound and other new influences, it actually sounds a lot like traditional Xandria.

I believe coping Nightwish is not a problem. I know only ONE album which is very good and which is Nightwish-clone at the same time. Most Nightwish clones are flops and nowhere near talented Holopainen. Neverworld's End is super quality, it mostly free of slow songs, is sounds heroic, indeed it reminds Rhapsody of Fire at moments, and it's like a storm!

I've read a German review (metal.de) praising the album just because it fills the gap the old Nightwish left behind after firing Tarja. And it's not the only one saying that. So therefore I ask myself how sites like these can criticize the lack of individuality and creativity by other bands and an Old Era Nightwish rip-off gets good reviews because of copying the old era style of another band. Is there such a need for these kind of style in Symphonic Metal that you don't even need individuality and creativity anymore to get praised?!

Its obviously that the album will not be pleased by everyone, in many aspects. Its just very interesting that all reviews of the album gives 9 or 10 points to Xandria, this reviews includes famous and respect websites like sonic cathedral, metal underground and so much to come.

Agreed with Cyborg-Sage. Thats the major problem with this album. Its a major step back in terms of originality

É, morreu em 2007. Se eu quisesse ouvir o old nightwish, eu ouviria o old nightwish.
