Contemporary classi…

“Contemporary classical” describes music composed in the classical tradition by composers of the latter half of the 20th century and current times. Contemporary classical music incorporates technological developments of the modern era (recording, electronic instruments) while maintaining a composition style rooted in notation. Contemporary classical music also incorporates artistic developments in sculpture, film and particularly dance. Read more…|Edit this Artist photo: Vitor Araújo

eh I was just saying that Richter etc. compose music in a similar style but 'contemporary classical' is a more general term that transcends a particular style—but they certainly fall under the 'contemporary classical' umbrella (which is very wide), and you can name your playlist whatever you want. I was just being snarky because I don't like them.

@ut0 okay, so you don't like their 'kind' of orchestral music - I'm willing to disassociate them with anything to do with contemporary classical, coming up with my own solution regarding 'those guys' - and for playlist purposes I've now placed their albums under a title: 'Orchestral soundscape'. I suppose I was ignorant to assume everyone here was on the same page, that we were talking of defining a term for 'those guys'. I'm sure there are composers today that compose radically different music more worthy of the title of contemporary classical - in comparison to the 'classics', correct? Care to enlighten?

@ut0 One does not simply say that Philip Glass sucks. O__O

there are a lot other living composers besides Max Richter, Arnalds, Jóhannsson and co. and many of them compose radically different kinds of music that often sucks less than those guys

@Knubbas Says the man that tagged Richter and Arnalds as 'modern classical'. Synonymous much? Max Richter, Arnalds, Jóhannsson and co. DO have a distinctive sound that I can group, so there's a genre there somewhere, I dislike the term 'contemporary classical' as much as anyone else, but hey, alliteration's got me good. I mean post-rock's bad enough, but I've grown so accustomed to it...
