    this depends because the beatles invented a lot of new styles. in fact, when i was listening to them in the early 60s, we definitely called it BEAT, the generic term 'rock' was not yet invented. today they are pigeonholed with 'classic rock' which doesn't mean anything to me. it's just a matter of perspective.
