Biography

Tub Ring is a tornado of genres mixing punk, classical, surf, a-capella, hardcore, pop, and whatever else crosses their path into one cohesive blend of rock.

Forging this sound in 2001, Tub Ring has been a force of nature in the left-of-center world of music, building momentum and inertia with every day that passes. The band’s first album of avant-garde pop, Drake Equation, was produced by Mr. Bungle’s Trey Spruance. Since, Tub Ring has released a total of 4 albums and a DVD/B-Side double pack.

With each album charting into double digits on the CMJ Top 200, Tub Ring’s music has also been featured on Fox Sports, Xbox 360’s “Amp Snow Boarder 3”, various MTV/MTV2 programs, Spike and Mike’s Twisted Animation films, and several Mt. Dew commercials. Most recently, Tub Ring played live in the TRL room on MTV2, and was featured in the MTV reality based contest show “Dew Circuit Breakout”.

Tub Ring has created an enormous underground market with their bizarre genre of spazzed pop rock, with no financial help, no manager, NOTHING… except hard work, non-stop touring, and inventive song writing with intelligent lyrics. Clocking in at over 150 shows per year from 2001 to 2009 throughout North America, Europe and Japan, there are few bands that can match Tub Ring’s determination and commitment to music. Touring partners include Mindless Self Indulgence, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Kill Hannah, Dog Fashion Disco, Clutch, Karate High School, Black Light Burns, Foxy Shazam!, and more!

Promise Keeper is on their album Zoo Hypothesis and Teen Beat Medley Parts 1 & 2 were songs they released on their old website for free (along with a bunch of other cover songs) like 10-12 years ago. Part 1 was also released on the Japanese album Book of Water.

Kinda sad that I didn't discover this band when they first came out. My boyfriend tried to introduce me to them 4 years ago, but I naively dismissed them as a b grade Mr. Bungle, and didn't dig any deeper. He tried again last week, and this time, something clicked. Better late than never, as they say - but in a way I feel like I missed out. Who knows if these guys will ever tour again, or make another record. The consensus seems to be that their last two albums weren't as great as the earlier stuff. My man says "They call it The Great Filter because it filtered out everything that is great about Tub Ring." I am still giving their more recent stuff a chance, however, I think that the Alien Theory trilogy (Drake/Fermi/Zoo for anyone who wasn't paying attention) is probably what will stick with me most, judging from the dozen or so earworms that they've embedded into my brain in the last week. I love lyrics that make me laugh, or think. TR definitely has my gears turning.

I've been a fan since Drake Equitation, and I think the last two albums have been VAST improvements. They have really grown into something that is their own style and not Mr. Bungle 2.0.

Honestly, earliest Tub Ring sounded almost exactly like Mr. Bungle. To me, their latest work really gave Tub Ring its own unique sound. Their newest album may not be their best, but it gets better for me with every listen.

Melodramatic yeah, you got me. Doesn't change the fact they make incredibly boring music now. considering their first 3 albums are some of my favourite music ever, its a massive shame. I Would love to see Jason Fields make some new music, he was clearly the real brains behind the band.
