The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die
Biography
Willimantic CT, United States (2009 – present)
The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die are an atmospheric emo / indie rock band from Willimantic, CT. The band was formed in 2009 and has undergone several lineup changes since it’s inception. TWIABP’s now 8 piece lineup writes the songs collaboratively and often on-the-spot with vocal duties shared by 4 members. The band’s sound is easily compared to second wave post-emo indie rock bands of the late 90’s and early 2000’s and their atmospheric moments are often tagged as “post-rock.” The band creates their dense textured sound with multi-layered and heavily effected guitars as well as synthesizer, cello, and trumpet.
“The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die speak to a universal experience: of home, of suburbia, of community, of nostalgia for a time not so long ago after all. Atmospheric and breathy, emotionally raw and heavy, The World Is’ reputation as one of today’s seminal “second-waver“ emo bands precedes them.
The World Is experience is a rich one. This is in part due to the varied history of the six people in the band, a Connecticut-bred lineup finalized as recently as 2011 despite their 2009 formation. Greg Horbal (also an agent with Hope This Helps Booking), Chris Teti (also an engineer at Connecticut’s Silver Bullet Studios) and Steven K. Buttery (also in the band Ferocious Fucking Teeth, runs a screenprinting operation of his own) were all formerly in a similarly significant Connecticut band, My Heart to Joy. Shanholtzer is a working visual artist, has operated a popular Connecticut house venue (The Handsome Woman) for years as well as contributed to bands like One Hundred Year Ocean, SOFX and I’m ok (as has bassist Josh Cyr).
