Biography

  • Years Active

    1991 – 1993 (2 years)

  • Founded In

Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom

Sheffield's The Suncharms played a brand of indie guitar pop that was sometimes fast and thrashy, but at other times moodily atmospheric. They released two 12" singles on Wilde Club (the tiny label which launched the career of the Catherine Wheel). Their appearance at Sheffield Sound City (organised by Radio One) drew their initial phase to a close. However renewed interest in the band from the American reissue label Cloudberry Records led to a retrospective compilation being released in 2016 which in turn galvanised the band back into action with all five of the original members who had remained friends in the intervening years.
The band have since released a 7” single on Slumberland Records, made several compilation appearances and released their debut studio album “Distant Lights” on the Chicago based indie label Sunday Records in 2021.
At the time of writing in 2023 they are in the process of getting ready to release their second studio album. The Suncharms also returned to playing gigs from 2017. They also have a Facebook and Bandcamp page and their whole catalogue of songs can be found on all streaming platforms.
