The Go-Go’s are an all-female American rock and roll group formed in 1978. They made rock history as the first all-woman band in pop music that played their own instruments and wrote their own songs to top the Billboard charts with a #1 album. Stylistically, their energetic music spanned punk-pop, surf, new wave, and rock.

They rose to fame in the early-1980s and their unlikely success ushered in an era of new bands and new music in the U.S. Their trend-setting debut album “Beauty and the Beat” is considered one of the cornerstone albums of American new wave. In the beginning they played primarily pop punk and later defined themselves with the distinct sound of 1980s rock. The Go-Go’s had five Top 40 hits.

In the 1960s, there was a group from Newcastle in the U.K. known as The Go-Go’s.
The group is known for their 1964 novelty Christmas single, “I’m Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek”.

I remember digging through my father's records and being amazed that he had Beauty and the Beat... I was probably more amazed at how talented they were - people tend to associate them with vapid pop, but this is good stuff. Oh, yeah, and I'm in love with all of them, trainwreck-y as they seem to have been. Well, Jane Wiedlin still is.

Slinky Vagabond features Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, Clem Burke of Blondie, and Earl Slick (David Bowie's guitarist) and singer Keanan Duffty. Slinky Vagabond made their debut in May 2007 at Irving Plaza as part of Joey Ramone's annual birthday bash. Slinky Vagabond also performed for Gen Art during New York fashion week and at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp

also, check out the cover version of "How Much More" that Redd Kross does; the singer of Redd Kross is married to Charlotte Caffey of the Go-Go's. It's from an album called "Freedom of Choice" you can hear on LastFM- it's a compilation album of bands covering great 1980's songs. It was from late '90's, and the proceeds went to PlannedParenthood (freedom of Choice, get it- ha ha!) It's a good record- alot better then I'm making it sound here! Bands like Sonic Youth (i swear,do they play on Every Tribute Album ever made?), Yo La Tengo and i can't remember who else play Blondie, Devo, etc. There's a great cover of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" re-invented as a new-wave powerpop tune w/ a call-and-response style chorus that is so catchy & innovative! i've put it on mixes that i've given to friends.We worship Kate's original song, of course, but this cover always makes me laugh, even as it annoyingly gets stuck in my head for days after i listen to it! O yeah,I love the GG's "This Town"
