The Bonzo Dog Band were the brainchild of a British art-school set of the 1960s. Part jazz band, part psychedelic rockers, the Bonzos came to the attention of a broader British public through a television comedy, Do Not Adjust Your Set, which starred future Monty Python members Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones. The Bonzos released several albums but only had one major hit, I’m The Urban Spaceman, which was produced by Paul McCartney under the pseudonym Apollo C. Vermouth.

The Bonzos have gone by several names, starting with The Bonzo Dog Dada Band, followed by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, and finally the Bonzo Dog Band.

Members included Roger Ruskin-Spear and Vivian Stanshall.

The popular indie group Death Cab for Cutie are named after the song of the same name the Bonzos performed in The Beatles’ film, Magical Mystery Tour. This track appears on the Bonzos first album, 1967’s Gorilla.
