Biography

There are at least seven artists/bands that have used this name: a British psychedelic rock band, an American psychedelic band, an Australian power-pop/rock trio, a Mexican psychedelic hard rock band, a solo artist, an Italian eurodance trio, and an electronic musician.

1. Kaleidoscope were a British psychedelic rock band consisting of vocalist Peter Daltrey, guitarist Eddie Pumer, bassist Steve Clark and drummer Danny Bridgman. They signed to Fontana in 1967 and released two albums; “Tangerine Dream” in 1967 and “Faintly Blowing” in 1969. After being dropped by Fontana after a lack of chart success, they changed their name to Fairfield Parlour and signed to Vertigo, releasing the album “From Home to Home” in 1970. A year later they recorded a rock opera called “White Faced Lady”, which wasn’t released at the time. It finally saw the light of day in 1991, when it was released under the band’s first name.

2. The American Kaleidoscope from outside Los Angeles was a psychedelic band which covered a range of influences from country to folk to blues to jazz to acid rock to eastern ragas and points in between. They released four albums and then members ended up in other bands and session work, most notably David Lindley and Chris Darrow. Clarence Page often called Kaleidoscope his favorite band of all time.

I like the UK's lyrics more, but the US one has the songs that completely blow my mind. The UK has much more consistent mat'l though... Yet the Mex/Dominica one has one of my favourite covers. If only I could get somewhere some cactii that makes it seem that they were one band with all the perks...........

3 completely different great psychedelic rock bands from the same period of time in 3 different countries under the same name. Now that's unique.

Kaleidoscope (US) were arguably the most eclectic band of the psychedelic era, weaving together folk, blues, Middle Eastern, and acid music, seamlessly than any other musicians. The California group were formed under the nucleus of multi-instrumentalists David Lindley and Chris Darrow in the mid-’60s. Adding fiddle, banjo, and various exotic string instruments such as the oud and saz to the traditional rock lineup, Kaleidoscope complemented their experimental sounds with taut and witty songwriting. Other important members were Solomon Feldthouse, who specialized in the Turkish-style instruments, and Chester Crill. -.-.-.-. om hari om ..... ॐ
