There is an eternal minor 7th chord on the organ in this piece which is the sound of the mothership expanding to fill the universe spreading knowledge, wisdom and love while the looped saxophone swoops and darts over all creating laughter and joy.

Poppy rides again...and this time Pops Riley gets it even better. A desert island disk, to be sure.

An all-time fave, although I'll admit that when I first bought the LP I returned it because I thought it was scratched. Nope, that's how it was supposed to sound, and soon I was trancing out regularly to the sweetly droning layers of melody.
(Our stuff, got a little bit of that in it...)
Sympatico, the melodious rhythm ensemble
http://rosswriting.com/sympatico

The live Poppy Nogood performances from this time are highly recommended. They go even further over the edge for a good eyeballing of the technicolour abyss.

The title "Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band" sounds like a hilarious parody of psychedelia and the Beatles (mind the Beatles' "experimental" side, e.g. "Revolution No. 9"... pfft!). But this sounds way more interesting than the average minimalism, ambient, and elevator music rubbish.
