I always loved this song, and this whole album, but I'm finally hearing it at something more than mp3 (which is totally shite at anything below 320 kbps) as an mp4 lossless file at 960 kbps, and I'm totally blown away. IT's like having new ears. (FLAC is also excellent. I use Clementine player cos itunes won't play it cos itunes wants to own everything.)

they lost me with that little drink clinking sound effect when he sings about his drink...

The only band to be called shoegaze that had a chance of making it in America. I say this based on their innate sense to "rock out" in many of their songs

legless, i'm having a blast singing along. Johnny Cash would have done well covering this epic.

top drawer songwriting. once again, i regret Johnny Cash hadn't covered this one. it's his line of country. the mimicy of the guitars as they evoke a lonely train bound for hell is sure sweet. and the drumming is perfect as it keeps time, driving the story and tune along.

remember a gig in amsterdam with the swervies , got coach from london with band. Got free copy of album with duel on it, t shirt etc. Gig was great too. Still laugh about the coach sailing thru UK customs full of skunk, and dodgy charactors, while a bus load of pensioners getting pulled in front of us.

This is one of those songs that has an excellent beginning, followed by a boring repetitive middle filled with nothing (like Crazy Rhythms, by The Feelies) I love when he sings, but then it just plays those two damn chords for like 6 minutes.

Got this album when it first came out. Couldn't get a single person else into them, sadly. I think I was their one fan in Mississippi.
