Ryan O’Neal’s journey has taken many turns over the past twelve years under the moniker of Sleeping At Last. What began in 1999 as a Chicago-based teenage garage band has organically transitioned to original songwriter O’Neal as a solo artist continuing the gorgeous thread of work that has amazed and captivated listeners over all these years. Near its inception, Sleeping At Last’s amateur debut album, “Capture,” was noticed by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, who helped expose the music to the major-label world. Soon after, the band signed to Interscope Records and released “Ghosts” (2003), their first official full-length album. Two independently-released full-length records followed: “Keep No Score” (2006) and “Storyboards” (2009). In between the writing and recording of albums, the band has established a reputation for a pitch-perfect live show, successfully headlining several U.S. tours and sharing the stage with such artists as Switchfoot, Yellowcard, Something Corporate, Billy Corgan’s Zwan, Alanis Morrisette, Lifehouse, and Phantom Planet, just to name a few. The creative process has always been protected, as the band self-produced each record, working with respected mixers such as John Goodmanson and Alan Moulder. On “Storyboards,” the song “Clockwork” featured an orchestral arrangement composed by the legendary Van Dyke Parks, which was a veritable dream come true for O’Neal. All along, their grassroots following has continued to build strength and demonstrates fierce loyalty to the music that has progressed alongside their own lives for all these years.

Ryan is underrated, been so for many years.. I try to be happy for the success through Breaking Dawn, but.. You know, he shouldn't get fame for THAT! He should've had it years ago. I guess it's better than none at all, who knows.. I'm so uptight about this I wanna hit myself, believe me.

:) I was having a bad day at work & came home to see that it arrived and I was giddy too. It exceeded even my heavy expectations for it. I agree with what you said of him having nothing but love inside him.

Hey, by the way! I got the yearbook CD collection today! It's for me and my girlfriend, and we were so thrilled. She came in through the front door.. "Hey, darling.. We've got a package to get at the post office.. It's from USA." As I was standing in the bathroom, I happily yelled "Sleeping at last!" It will spin warm, especially during Christmas.

There just aren't enough words.. It never will be. Sleeping At Last is the best musical project ever to surface. I have so much to thank the musicians for, especially Ryan. It's a perfect harmony. "Hurry, hurry, come quickly. And leave all logic aside. Don't say a word, just listen carefully to me: The world is ours if we could only let it be." There's not an ounce of violence in this guy. There's only pure love.

AMAAS: Yes, it's essential to recognize the different beliefs between one another - and be able to accept it and tag along as if it's as simple yet crucial as breathing. I saw your praise in the facebook log. Ryan is a very friendly creator of masterpieces. The Mozart of alternative *chokes* emo *catch a breath* rock. :-)

Amen @mercuryadams. I couldn't have said it better myself. Not every Christian is all-judging and holier-than-thou. In fact the people that act that way aren't Christian at all, just a misguided design. I have a lot of friends that are atheist and I don't push my faith onto them, that's what makes our dynamic work We all know the backgrounds and religious affiliations that each of us fall under and yet we all co-exist and our friendships grow stronger by the day.

1½ year ago I wrote to Dan & Ryan. I literally wrote that I have no religious faith, but that I interpreted the lyrics as the mystery of life, the hope we carry inside, and our strength and ambitions - the search for love and serenity. Ryan answered with the deepest gratitude and appreciation. I'm convinced Ryan makes music because he needs to, and because there's a deep desire to reach out and touch as many as possible. It doesn't seem to matter if we're devoted religious people or atheists.

Numerous songs are influenced by Bible verses & they play a lot of shows at churches and Christian festivals. Soooo that'd be why. Their faith is very important to them, but they don't pigeonhole their fanbase. If you like his/their music then that's all that matters. :)

rudraamennun: My guess is that the band was (and still is) christian, so Ryan (which is the only official memember now) is christian. And deeply so, I believe. You could always mail Ryan and ask him, I'm sure he'll be more than willing to answer the question.
