I would concede this is not Rilo Kiley's best work but it's still a damn fine record. [4]

To those who say it's not the Rilo Kiley I fell in love with: what I love best about them is that all their albums really do sound different. They have such an eclectic sound. I like the dancier sound they have here, just I like the more lo-fi sounds of their first two albums, and the halfway point on more adventurous. Great band. Hope they return someday.

I never really got into this album. A couple of decent songs on it though, but I prefer Take Offs and Landings, More Adventurous and The Execution of All Things.

I don't really care how 'pop friendly' this album is meant to be, I still love it. I don't believe it's their best but if someone else comes along and enjoys it better than the other albums, they should be allowed to without having their opinion shot down in flames just because some annoying music elitist reckons the album is too mainstream or some utter bollocks. Get a grip and stop being so pathetic. Listen to what YOU want, and stop caring what other people think.

i mean, listening to this and listening to the first EP, it's obviously the same band. they have a unified sound no matter what. i don't really know what a lot of people are complaining about.

"The sound is so pop friendly it is embarassing". I hate this, people who think their music elitists because they shun anything that is mainstream or considered pop. Dude people who listen to "real music" or "good music" listen to anything no matter how many other people are listening to it or how "pop" it is (how is this album pop btw? reminds me of country rock more than anything) Why dont these people just listen to the albums they think are good? since they have no bussiness spluring their nonsense all over this albums shout box. Okay about the album. It's not my favorite but some of the tracks are solid. 1-4 and 6 (6 being one of the best rilo songs i've heard) are all great songs. :]

I admit that Under the Black Light is far inferior to RK's previous records, but that doesn't make it bad. It's more pop oriented for sure, but contains some solid tracks. I don't get why some people are automatically so harsh on pop music. Even though most of it is trash, I can recognize good pop when I hear it, and that's the case here. You're not gonna stop being cool if you listen to it, not even if you happen to enjoy it
