Tokyo, Japan (1974 – 2010)

Jun Seba (瀬葉淳) (February 7, 1974-February 26, 2010) was a Japanese music producer who recorded under the name Nujabes (new-jah-behz; which is simply his real name spelled backwards). His music is known for a strong influence, frequently using samples from artists like Miles Davis and Yusef Lateef.

He was also an owner of “tribe”, a record store in Shibuya, Tokyo, and led record label Hyde-Out Productions. He released two albums in Japan, Metaphorical Music in 2003 and Modal Soul in 2005. He was also a member of the production duo Urbanforest, an collaboration with Nao Tokui (appearing on the Lady Brown 12”).

In addition to Japanese artists like Shing02 and MINMI, he has collaborated with underground American hip-hop acts CYNE, Apani B-Fly, Five Deez, Substantial, Fat Jon and British rapper Funky DL.

He has also contributed music to the soundtrack of Samurai Champloo, an anime which blends a setting in feudal Japan with modern anachronisms, especially music.

On March 17, 2010, it was announced on the Hyde-Out Productions website that Jun passed away on February 26, 2010 at the age of 36 after being involved in a serious car accident on the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway. He was promptly transported to the hospital, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. An English announcement was made on March 18 by friend and collaborator Shing02 on the Empire22 website:

Im trying to find a track that either a mislabeled Nujabes track or a compilation of Nujabes and another artist. Im pretty sure its the former since I remember reading in comments that "this sounds like nujabes but he never recorded a track like this" or something to that extent. It had a sort of bossa nova vibe and the artist (not nujabes) only had one other song on youtube. Iv tried everything and I still cant find it. Iv dug through my history lists, recently listened track list on here and youtube, and its just gone. Anybody?

Nujabes I know you in heaven banging out some beats with Dilla, and just know although you were taken much to early you left your impact on this world and everyday we all miss you homie. You know makes me sad your feather flew you to a place where we can no longer feel your presence, but in all reality your never really dead. You will forever live on through your music. Can't wait till I'm up there with you, peace and one love.

Apparently the people who put it on spotify didn't have the rights to it and are basically scamming the guy's family out of money by selling Nujabes stuff...
