In September 2019, after the release of "Stack It Up", Liam said: "spent much of 2019 in the studio". In the same month, Payne revealed to Australian radio station Nova 96.9 that the album was finished, that he was "proud" of it and is "exactly the way I would like my first album to sound". He also stated that he is "very hip-hop and R&B oriented, with many artists that I like" - a reference to Usher and Justin Timberlake.
