Manchester, United Kingdom (1991 – 2009)

There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Oasis were an English group, originally formed in Manchester, United Kingdom in 1991. They enjoyed a period of huge success following the release of their first album, Definitely Maybe and during the second, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, with praise from across the spectrum and the accumulation of several major awards. Many critics have since said this was the peak of their musical career to-date. They cite bands such as The Beatles, Slade, The Stone Roses, The Real People, The Smiths and The Who as influences. Oasis have sold an estimated 50 million records worldwide. To date, they have released 7 studio albums, all to hit #1 on the UK album chart.

The band was comprised of vocalist/songwriter Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Liam’s older brother. Included in the group were Andy Bell (formerly of shoegaze band Ride), Gem Archer, and currently no official drummer. The band continued to maintain its original organization of two guitarists, one bassist, drummer, and lead singer until Noel Gallagher’s departure in August 2009. Oasis dissolved soon after.

Thanks to the success of their critically acclaimed debut album “Definitely Maybe” and its 18m selling follow-up “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, the Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspaper stories, and cultivated a reputation as bad boys. Berwick Street in London was used for the Album cover of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?

i can't really expect noel to only pull out tunes like "half the world away". i'm sure he has better songs like the ones he did during soundchecks on the last tour (ex: "if there's a god", "if i had a gun", and "everybody's on the run")

I'm dead serious, Wunderlich_Twig. All Oasis songs seem almost the same to me. Every album seems to be based on a previous work, lacking in new ideas. --- Norah Jones' music changes quite a lot from album to album. She doesn't limit herself to repeating the same formula over and over again. Besides her work as a solo artist, she has other projects you probably never heard about. Maybe you should investigate, before lifting any doubts about her talent. Yes, I really believe she's a lot more creative than the Gallagher brothers... but I understand (and I won't insult you) if you think otherwise: after all, tastes differ from people to people and for some people, even Brokencyde are the BEST band ever ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8F5YSA1Oz0 ). For their fans, Brokencyde are better than Oasis, Norah Jones, Beatles, Doors, Pink Floyd... or any other band. Go figure...

Well, PFGrifter, since you got so inflamed to the point you couldn't refrain yourself from insulting me, I assumed Oasis was your favourite band, but if that makes you so angry, I apologise for that wrong assumption... Do you feel better now? --- So... if they aren't even your favourite band, why do you need to resort to the lowest form of discussion and attack me with those feeble insults? Is that the only form of speech you know? --- Apparently, your life is a lot more boring than mine, seeing that you take pleasure from insulting people you don't even know, for the mere fact they've criticized a band which isn't even your favourite. That's certainly odd. Now think.

whoever said oasis was my favorite band and whoever said that something has to be original to be good? if anything you seem worthy of pity as your life is apparently so boring that you spend all this free time trolling away in shoutboxes of bands you dislike

PFGrifter says: "oh and this mitardo guy is a clown.. he's comparing oasis to watching paint dry but has 1000 norah jones scrobbles? " --- First of all, I haven't called you Case, have I? My nick is Mitrado, not Mitardo. Get it right, please... it's not that hard, is it? --- Secondly: What is it with you Oasis' fans? Do you always have to resort to insults whenever someone criticizes your favourite band? It seems to be a generalized problem... Maybe Oasis lack of originality is making all you fans starting to act and look like each other? Can't you ever maintain your temper? Must you always resort to kindergarten-like techniques? Is that all your brain is capable of? If the answer is yes, then I pity you... 'cause a 6 year old kid is usually capable of showing a lot more creativity than that. --- Last, but not the least, Norah Jones is a million times more talented than all the Oasis members combined. Poor Gallagher brothers are mere amateurs when compared to the genius of Norah Jones.

@ f0rce0fnature "i have a feeling that they both won't do as well as they planned" Well, I have this feeling too. That's why Noel shouldn't have left in the first place :P And I'm sure that they won't have top 5 or 10 or whatever. It's just wrong all over and shouldn't have happened at all. "oh well, let's just see how it goes :) " Let's))))

@Wunderlich_Twig, yeah you've got a point, Noel generally is the fan favourite (he's mine), but Liam is quite talented. in the back of my mind, i have a feeling that they both won't do as well as they planned. chart positions is the last thing they care about, but they probably won't end up with top 5 singles every time like they did in Oasis. also, the media loves to hate Liam. i think he's lovely, just brutally honest, which i can respect. oh well, let's just see how it goes :)

@ f0rce0fnature. I actually doubt it too but you don't expect him saying "I know my music will be worse that Noel's but I'll make it no matter what". Oasis is over, so he must go on without Noel, what else do you want him to do? Anyway, I think no matter how good his new music is people will slag him off just because it's kind of tradition to say that Noel can do whatever he wants without Oasis and it's great and Liam is talentless twat. Even in their stupid final brawl the majority of fans are on Noel's side, though it's obvious that he's not right.
