Songfacts states that Joe Bonamassa (born May 8, 1977) was born and raised in New Hartford, New York. His parents owned and ran a guitar shop and in interviews he credits his mother and father with fostering an appreciation of music in his life as early as he can remember. As a youngster he just wanted to earn enough money to buy a deluxe Nintendo game when he started playing the professionally. Then he met legend B.B. King. At the age of 12, his mother got a call from a local promoter, Richard Thornton asking if he wanted to be the opening act at a concert at which King was the headliner. After hearing the gifted adolescent play, King was so impressed that he invited Bonamassa to tour over the summer with his band.

The gig got Bonamassa exposure on national television and a recording contract with EMI Records. He has made seven studio albums and spends nine months a year on the road performing with industry greats that include John Lee Hooker, Joe Cocker, Peter Frampton, George Thorogood, Los Lobos and Jonny Lang.

Bonamassa has cited his influences as being British and Irish blues acts, rather than American acts. In an interview in Guitarist magazine (issue 265), he cited the three albums that had the biggest influence on his playing: John Mayall & The BluesbreakersBlues Breakers with Eric Clapton (the Beano album), Rory Gallagher’s Irish Tour and Goodbye by Cream.

He elaborated further on his influences in his review with Guitar Messanger:

The new album is pretty average compared to the high level of blues and rock showed on Dust Bowl or The Ballad of John Henry. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that DSOB is a bad album but it lacks of originality in general.

The new album is great. I had to get used to the brass players, but now I love them. They make the album different. Living on the Moon is a great song, just like Hey, Beautiful and,.. just about every song, to be honest.

Joe is currently the best blues rock guitar player! This is pure talant and a lot of practice! His voice is the same great if it's CD or live what is pretty surprising in the tecnologic era, where music is written due to computer. He is just the best for me!! Keep going!! I love what you're doing!
