    Great band. And it's likely that they felt their new album would be just as dynamic as their excellent back catalog. No one goes into a creative project (album, novel, movie) expecting it to suck and disappoint fans.

    The Great Escape Artist is an ok album at best. It's just obvious the band doesn't have the creative drive anymore and are just in it for the touring money. Honestly, that's fine with me. [2] Then why make a new album? Why not just tour older material you know your fans will dig? Just because you don't like an album doesn't mean they "lack creative drive" and "are only doing it for touring money".
