Hailing from Southend and London, the five-piece consist of unforgettable 24-year old frontman Lou Vainglorious, a singer songwriter with a talent to write catchy infectious indie-pop songs with an edge. Lou met double bassist Nick Pini after months of trawling myspace trying to find a double-bassist to create a new sound, the two bonded instantly. With Nick’s ear for arrangement and Lou’s songs, Hoodlums were born… Soon after old musical jamming buddies Henry Tyler (Drums) and Tino Kolarides (Guitar) joined the band. With the addition of keys player Oli Wennink the band were complete.

After a monthly residence at Boogaloo Bar, the band were spotted by Nude founder Saul Galpern (the man who discovered Suede) who leapt at the opportunity to take the Hoodlums debut release “beat bop” to the masses.

Taking influences from Fun Boy Three to Ian Dury and The Blockheads, Prince to Lou Reed, Charles Mingus , Charlie Parker, De La Soul and Tribe Called Quest as well as the primitive Alan Lomax recording, Hoodlums take us back to the prime of late 70’s punk-pop with a unique modern twist, creating a sound, style and scene that is entirely their own.
