Bordeaux, France (1997 – present)

Gorod, formerly known as Gorgasm (not to be confused with the US death metal band) is a band from Bordeaux, France, formed in 1997. Initially started as a 3-piece, when it came time to record a demo in 2000, a second guitarist was added. Their debut full-length, Neurotripsicks, was released via Deadsun Records in 2004 under the Gorgasm moniker, but with the name change to Gorod, the album was re-released via Willowtip Records in 2005.

The follow up to Neurotripsicks, Leading Vision, was released in 2006 on Willowtip Records. The band followed up with Process of a New Decline in 2009.

New track is insane: Gorod - Celestial Nature! I can't wait for, A Maze Of Recycled Creeds, to drop out on October 16th via Unique Leader.

Gorod is one of the more tasteful tech. death bands to me, and you can actually tell their tracks apart unlike 80% of the bands in the style. Can definitely see how a lot of this genre would come off as wankery (and it does to me as well,) but even on that front Blotted Sciece's album is insanely catchy while being wankery. To each their own, of course, but I would place Gorod more on the level of bands like Obscura as far as well done experimentation goes. I don't think I'll ever find another track quite like Varangian Paradise either, haha

My avatar. TheArtofShred will hate on me because of that but who cares lol. But in all seriousness, Gorod is definitely one of the top tech death bands, along with well SOP, Arkaik, Decrepit Birth etc.

Yeah I totally agree. actually, I think Gorod is one of the rare bands of the tech' scene to be really enjoyable to hear, and see live. better tech bands ? I'd like some names according to you.

Dude please all of Gorod's albums are great. They are pretty enjoyable and most definitely memroable. I remember hearing them the first time, I was like meh, 2nd time however, I kept singing parts and air guitaring solos.

I actually *somewhat* take that comment back because I've gotten into their other stuff recently but it is still slightly wanky but still pretty enjoyable and worth listening to. Though, I think you're a little off on what makes an album good or not. Music isn't all about shredding, writing the most fast, technical song you possibly can, it's about writing enjoyable shit people are going to remember and want to listen to again. This is a big problem in the technical death metal scene of today, bands just focus on writing the most technical song they can to show off their skills but completely fail at writing an enjoyable album, instead they end up writing an album you're going to forget every riff after listening. Gorod are great but they suffer from this in some aspects but as I said, they don't completely over do it like a band like Brain Drill, their music is still good but because of this I would say there's plenty better tech. death bands out there.
